submission guidelines

We are currently closed to submissions. We will update this page when we are open again!

Below are the guidelines from issue 1 for reference.

What we are looking for

Anything that can broadly be classified as: sci fi, fantasy, spec fic, surrealism, fabulism, etc from creatives in/from so-called Australia and Aotearoa.

The theme for the first issue is hopepunk.

At the moment, we are not looking for non-fiction.

Length

Max limits are:

  • Fiction - 1500 words

  • Poetry/verse - 20 lines

  • Comics - 2 A4 pages (B&W only sorry)

  • Scripts - 5 pages/minutes

Very very short is fine too. Have a 100 word fiction piece? Perfection. A two-panel comic? Hell yeah.

If you’re not sure what category your piece fits into, or maybe it exists outside these categories, email us to discuss!

submissions due

11:59pm November 30 2023 (a little late is fine)

manuscript format

We literally do not care about fonts, spacing, etc.

For words, please attach as a .doc, .pdf or send a gdrive link. For comics, please attach as .png/.jpg/.pdf - as long as we can open it without having photoshop, etc.

payment

Successful contributors will recieve $200. Issue 1 is supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants.

How do I submit?

Please email Alison and Rafeif at longtrekpress@gmail.com

other stuff

Simultaneous submissions are fine, just let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere as soon as you find out.

Previously published work is okay, but we are less likely to say yes to it than new work.

Send max three submissions. This can be any combo, 2 short stories, 1 poem, or 1 comic, 1 short story and 1 poem, etc.

No AI writing or art will be accepted. By submitting to Long Trek you are acknowledging your art does not contain AI content.

The target audience for the zine is adults, but we won’t disregard work written for younger audiences automatically. If you think we’ll like it, send it through.
